Guest Speaker Philip Gowman 6th October 2015
For our October member's meeting we were joined by Philip Gowman, founder and creator of 'London Korean Links' website www.londonkoreanlinks.net, which has steadily become one of the best resources for finding out about Korean related events, exhibitions, film screenings and other cultural activities in London.
Philip has also written a book called ' Royal Ancestors and Ancient Remedies - a brief journey through Korea's heritage'.
Philip is also an honorary ambassador for Sancheong town.
Philip prepared an entertaining talk for us on the subject, 'Korean Women - on screen and between the covers'. He included a look at the stereotypes of Korean women that can be found in the movies, in one or two novels available in the English language, and even the representation of Korean women in contemporary Korean art, raising the question, 'Is there such a thing as a traditional Korean woman?'. The talk was followed by a lively question and answer session where various topics were discussed. Member's then joined Philip for dinner for more informal chatting.
